The New Mutants #37 is a tie-in issue to Marvel's company-wide crossover event, Secret Wars II.
In this issue, the powerful cosmic being known as the Beyonder attacks and systematically defeats the New Mutants. The conflict culminates in the Beyonder killing the entire team. After their deaths, he takes the shocking step of erasing all memory of their existence from the world and destroying the ruins of the Xavier's School.
The story also focuses on the character Mirage (Dani Moonstar) as she reconciles with new abilities she gained from the Valkyrie. Although the issue ends with the team's demise, they are brought back to life by the Beyonder in a subsequent issue of the main Secret Wars II series.
