Sabretooth #1 (2004) (NM)
Sabretooth #1 (2004) is the first issue of the Marvel Comics miniseries Sabretooth: Open Season. In this issue, the brutal villain Victor Creed, also known as Sabretooth, is targeted by the U.S. military after being implicated in a massacre on Isle Dupree.
Written by Daniel Way and illustrated by Bart Sears, the story follows Creed as he is ambushed at his mansion in Vancouver. The issue's key plot points include:
Creed's relationship with a telepathic mutant named Birdy, who uses her "glow" ability to help him manage his suppressed childhood trauma and bloodlust.
Flashbacks to his childhood reveal a traumatic upbringing that included an abusive father and torture.
Birdy betrays Sabretooth, deactivating his mansion's security system and allowing a tactical assault team to storm the property.
Despite putting up a vicious fight and killing many soldiers, Sabretooth is ultimately subdued with tranquilizers and nets.
He is captured and wakes up in a lab, where a figure known as the Tribune reveals that he has had scientists perform surgery on Creed, enhancing his powers and implanting a bomb near his heart.
The Tribune's first demand is for Sabretooth to kill Mystique.
