Nova #2 (1976), titled "The First Night of... the Condor!", sees Richard Rider face his first major supervillain challenge as Nova. The issue, written by Marv Wolfman with art by John Buscema and Joe Sinnott, features the first appearances of the villains Condor and Powerhouse.
Plot synopsis:
Newly empowered, Richard Rider (as Nova) stops a bank robbery.
He is quickly noticed by the Condor, a winged villain, who enlists the super-strong, but simple-minded, Powerhouse to deal with Nova.
Nova engages the duo and, after a skirmish, manages to escape to his high school.
He later has a second battle with the villains where he uses his wits to defeat the formidable Powerhouse.
