Millennium #5 is a 1988 DC Comics issue that continues the weekly crossover event where the robotic Manhunters, with sleeper agents on Earth, attempt to disrupt the Guardians of the Universe's plan to create a new generation of metahumans.
Plot summary
The Guardians' instruction Two Guardians instruct the chosen individuals in the ways of the universe. These "Chosen" are a new generation of immortals who will replace the Guardians.
Manhunter reinforcement The heroes, previously celebrating the destruction of a major Manhunter stronghold, discover from an salvaged Manhunter ship that their robotic foes have limitless reinforcements arriving from space.
A new battle plan With the Guardians occupied, the heroes regroup and form their own strategy. A team of ten powerful heroes, including Superman, Firestorm, and multiple Green Lanterns, is assembled to travel to the Manhunters' homeworld, Orinda.
Rescue and subplot Meanwhile, the alien Green Lantern Driq rescues Harbinger on Orinda. Also, in a separate subplot, the Outsiders deal with the American Security Agency trying to capture their members, Halo and Windfall.
