G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #5, subtitled "Tanks' for the Memories", was published in November 1982. In the issue, Cobra attempts to capture a G.I. Joe M.O.B.A.T. tank during an Armed Forces Day parade in New York City. An Army courier's secret orders about the tank's participation in the parade are discovered by Cobra, leading to a chase through the city. Cobra Commander takes the RTV and its cargo, leaving two officers, "Rattler" and "Copperhead," to execute the Joes. The unarmed Joes are forced to get creative to survive the attack.
